“Sing to the Lord a new song” (Ps 98:1).
This year, the Nyantende Parish Choir of Our Lady of Congo Parish gives thanks to God for 50 years of service, faith, and music. For half a century, the voices of its members have risen to accompany prayer, support the liturgy, and proclaim the Good News through song.
A legacy founded in 1976
Founded in the mid-1970s, the Nyantende Parish Choir has seen generations of singers come and go. From its zealous founders to today’s members, all have shared the same desire: to make Mass a more beautiful, more contemplative, and more vibrant experience. Through times of joy, times of mourning, changes in parish priests, and trials, the choir has remained faithful to its mission: to praise God and edify the congregation.
50 Years of Spiritual Fruits
Over the past 50 years, the Nyantende parish choir has:
- Provided music for thousands of Sunday Masses, weddings, baptisms, and funerals
- Trained hundreds of members in sacred music and liturgical service
- Recorded and shared repertoires: songs in Mashi
- Reached beyond the Our Lady of Congo Parish in Nyantende.
The Jubilee: A Time of Thanksgiving
To mark this Golden Jubilee, the Nyantende parish choir organized the following on Sunday, June 28, 2026
- A Mass of Thanksgiving, presided over by Father Jean-Claude CIZA, delegate of Archbishop François-Xavier MAROY of Bukavu
- A festive gala featuring former and current choir members, the parish priestly team, representatives from various sectors and subsectors of the parish, and various other guests
- The publication of a commemorative booklet chronicling its history
“The Lord has done marvelous things for us; we are filled with joy.” Ps 126:3
Looking forward to the next 50 years, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
